While undoubtedly one of the greatest albums of all time, this has become maybe the Led Zep album which has dropped most in my own estimation. I was obsessed with it but I almost never listen to it now, and when I do I skip more songs than I listen to. I’m just too familiar with it, and possibly sick of it. Outside of the Top Two, I struggle to listen to the others, even as I still recognise their perfection.
- Stairway To Heaven
- Going To California
- Black Dog
- Rock And Roll
- Four Sticks
- Misty Mountain Hop
- The Battle Of Evermore
- When The Levee Breaks

We had a thing at work where you were allowed to pick an album for the whole site to listen to on your birthday. I picked this one year and everybody hated it. H.A.T.E.D it
Weirdos
When you hear it with a group of people who aren’t into it, it does sound weird and otherworldly. Still brilliant but when you’re so familiar with it you forget what an odd album it is really.
Yeah, I can see that. But it’s still Led Zep so it’s hardly the most outlandish thing in the world. There are plenty of people out there whose musical range doesn’t go beyond whatever’s in the top 10, so shrieking and ringwraiths and 8 minute freakouts will sound like Lord knows what
I have never liked Going to California as much as the average LZ fan, I think. When The Levee Breaks would have been in my top 3, by the way, so I guess we feel very different about that one.
I’m a big softie romantic at heart. I would have loved When The Levee Breaks more when I first heard the album, and I think I probably sing it to myself more around the house. I just don’t get the urge to listen to it like I do the ones I’ve ranked higher.
Fair enough. It’s a very strong album, so the gap between the tracks is very tight.
