Motown Junk

Generic Ratings: 1: Crap. 2: Okay. 3: Good. 4: Great

The first Heavenly Records release by the band is this fan favourite – one of the band’s most infamous songs and one which is still frequently played live. When played live, it usually opens with a famous riff or melody from some other song like Sweet Child o Mine and my favourite version is the one found on the cassette version of Tsunami. The opening single barely charted in the UK but still managed to drum up plenty of attention thanks to the sloganeering and relentless attacks and promotion by the band at the time. While the original version sounds quite tame and slow both now, and when heard alongside later songs, live versions are always ferocious and cause chaos in the audience. A modern punk classic.

Motown Junk: 4: Great

Great post 🙂 I love this song. As far as you labeling it The Preachers most infamous song, is that because of that line about John Lennon? I am personally guessing that it is, but either way, Motown Junk is one of my many favorite Manic Street Preachers songs and it might even ranks somewhere in my top 5 favorite Manic Street Preachers songs. Anyway, keep up the great work as always 🙂
