1965 Academy Awards: An Introduction

The 38th Academy Awards were once again hosted by Bob Hope and saw two of the most financially successful movies of all time going head to head. Dr Zhivago and The Sound Of Music each garnered 10 nominations and 5 wins, effectively rendering the other entries as forgotten. Presenters this year included Julie Andrews, Warren Beatty, George Hamilton, George Peppard, and Natalie Wood, while performers included Robert Goulet and Liza Minelli.

Special Awards were given to Hollywood Executive Edmond L. DePatie and famed director William Wyler. Even though everyone only remembers the two films mentioned above, surely there were other classics both nominated and avoided. It’s time once again to change the past…
