1961 Academy Awards: An introduction

The 34th Academy Awards were hosted by Bob Hope and saw West Side Story winning 10 of it’s 11 nominations. Judgement At Nuremberg matched that number of nominations, but only picked up 2 wins. Honorary Awards went to the likes of Jerome Robbins and Stanley Kramer while the presenters included Fred Astaire, Joan Crawford, Rock Hudson, Gene Kelly, Burt Lancaster, and Jack Lemmon. Performances included Gene Pitney singing the title track from Town Without Pity and Andy Williams belting out ‘Moon River’.
