1960 Academy Awards: An Introduction

The 33rd Academy Awards were hosted by Bob Hope and saw Billy Wilder’s The Aparment getting most nominations (10) and most wins (5). Honourary Awards went to Gary Cooper, Stan Laurie, Hayley Mills, and Sol Lesser, and the luminous list of presenters included Yul Brynner, Bobby Darin, Audrey Hepburn, Eva Marie Saint, Shirley Temple, Tony Curtis, Janet Leigh, and Jimmy Stewart among others. Performances included The Brothers Four singing ‘The Green Leaves Of Summer’ from The Alamo and Connie Francis singing the title track from Never On Sunday.
